Well what a Grand Opening it was for Springmount Raceway! With over 125 competitors, 5000 spectators and side by side 5-second passes, we couldn’t think of a better way to formally kick off drag racing in Far North Queensland!
We wish to thank everyone who attended, participated, helped or otherwise supported the event to make it the success that it was. We would like to particularly acknowledge Graeme Cowin and his Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car teams who put on a great show for all of us. The day finished with their two 57 Chev funny cars crossing the finish line door to door at around 240 miles per hour (390km/h). Just awesome stuff… We can’t wait for these guys to return on August 6 with the full compliment of around 8 – 10 of these fire breathing monsters. You don’t want to miss that!
We now look forward to the next event on April 9 (Test & Tune), and of course the massive Northern Nats Car Show on 13th, 14th & 15th of May. In the mean time we will review the Grand Opening event and will look to improve any areas we can, bearing in mind that it was only the second event ever run at the venue. One of these improvements will be the installation of large shade structures which we are sure will be appreciated by spectators!
Driver nominations will open shortly for the April Test and Tune and we confirm that Camping Passes have just gone on sale online here for the Northern Nats. Get in quick to get these as we may need to limit numbers depending on the volume of sales. These passes include admission to the show for the full 3 days. General admission day passes will only be available to purchase on the gate on the day. More details on this event will be released shortly.
