For vehicles not requiring a full technical inspection (i.e. most street cars and street bikes), the following items will need to be checked as part of general scrutineering on race day:

- Functional radiator overflow / catch can
- Functional neutral safety switch (so car can’t start in gear)
- Battery firmly secured
- No excess play in steering system
- Functional throttle return spring
- Functional brakes
- All wheel nuts fitted
- No hub caps fitted
- No significant rust in body or chassis
- No loose items in cabin
- Tailshaft loop if running 12.99 seconds or quicker on slick tyres (cars with two-piece tailshafts with a secure centre bearing support are exempt)

In addition to the above, below is a table intended as a guide for determining the safety and licencing requirements for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) based cars and motorbikes. If your car or motorbike is not OEM-based (i.e. is a custom built chassis) or has a modified chassis or is of a performance level where technical requirements are identified below as being “as per IHRA regulations”, then it will require a full technical inspection and log book.
Specific technical and licencing requirements for OEM-based vehicles based on ET (Elapsed Time) are identified below:

In all cases where a technical inspection is required, an IHRA licence will also be required. An IHRA licence is also required in some cases where a technical inspection is not required (such as for cars running between 10.00 – 10.49 which meet the safety requirements above).

Please note that a day licence is available for $35 for those who do not wish to get an annual IHRA licence. In order to get a day licence you will still need a technical inspection (if applicable) and evidence of an existing ANDRA licence or medical.
